Dana Hutchins
Principal, President, and Creative Director of Image Works

For more than 25 years Dana Hutchins has created interactive systems, educational games, user interfaces, multimedia, and web products for clients such as NASA, National Semiconductor, Fairchild, Polaroid, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, the Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System, and the Orlando Science Center. Hutchins is a long-time member of the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group for Computer Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI) and the Association of Science-Technology Centers. He is a leader in the science museum exhibit design and human-computer interaction design fields.

In 2002 Hutchins formed the XhibitNet division of Image Works to focus on designing networked learning environments for science education. Current projects include the design and development of a $2.1 million system of 12 networked interactive multimedia marine research simulation stations and 30 high-definition video displays for the new Gulf of Maine Research Institute funded by NASA, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and private donors. In 2005 Hutchins' firm also received a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a Content Authoring, Presentation and Communication System for Informal Science Education Exhibits. The Phase 1 research will be completed in June 2005.
