| Laura Johnson
Laura Johnson is currently working as the Assistant Curator of Education at the Florida Holocaust Museum located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Her primary responsibilities require her to obtain, research, and provide all levels of educational materials that relay the museum’s objective to educate the educators and the public about the Holocaust, Human Rights and Genocides that
have occurred around the globe. She also assists with coordinating educational events such as the Museums annual Summer Institutes, Student Awareness Days, monthly Teacher Trainings, and other public programs related to the Holocaust and human rights. Johnson is a Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR) Fellow, and she has successfully completed their Summer Institute 2004 and Advanced Studies 2005.
In addition to working with educators, Johnson is responsible for teaching the public about the Holocaust and its horrific impact on society today. She considers it a great privilege and educational opportunity to work and interact with so many well-known Holocaust scholars, authors, and artists. Johnson believes that her service to the Museum is just a small role in a much larger picture, which is to reach out and educate all persons that every one deserves to be recognized
for their inherent worth and treated with dignity.
Before her job with the Florida Holocaust Museum, she worked for the Watson Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through a funded program at Watson Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Johnson found herself instructing and teaching blind individuals how to use a computer through the aid of program called JAWS (Job Access With Speech). Johnson spent five years with the organization and found the work extremely rewarding.
While raising her two daughters and holding down a full-time job, Johnson was able to successfully complete her Bachelor of Science in Management form the National-Louis University in 2000. Johnson is currently seeking a Master in Education: Curriculum & Instruction Program with National-Louis University and is expected to complete in 2006.
